FAQ

Everything you need to know at a glance, so you can book with confidence and arrive relaxed.

  • Moorland View is a thatched cottage in a thatched village, so extra care needs to be taken around fire.. The wood-burning stove is safe to use, but the simple guidance provided must followed. As the cottage is in a remote location, it’s especially important that these precautions are observed.

For everyone’s comfort and safety, please follow these guidelines carefully:

    • Only use the candles we supply, and do not move them or remove their covers

    • After use, fully extinguish matches under a tap and place them in the ashtray on the garden porch (not in any bins)

    • Smoking is not permitted indoors — cigarette ends should be disposed of in the porch ashtray

    • Do not incense or any other open flames

    • Keep the hearth area clear at all times

    • Only burn the kindling and logs provided. Please do not burn paper, cardboard or other materials, as stray embers can be hazardous in a thatched property

    • Fire extinguishers and fire blankets are provided and should be used promptly if safe to do so

  • We can’t usually offer early check-in or late check-out as we need time to prepare the cottage.

If you arrive early, we recommend a drink at Bovey Castle, lunch at our village pub, or a riverside stroll. Sometimes check-in may be delayed – in which case we may offer late check-out or pro-rata compensation.

    • Check-in: from 4:00 pm

    • Check-out: by 10:30 am

  • We welcome babes-in-arms and children aged eight years and over. Other children may be accepted only by prior arrangement. The cottage is not childproof and has risks which include a log-burning stove, breakables at low level and a garden pond.

A travel cot and bedding are provided free of charge for babies.

  • Yes – one well-behaved, house-trained adult dog is allowed by arrangement (£60 per stay). Puppies are not accepted. Please read our Pet Promise before booking, as it forms part of our booking terms and conditions.

    • Use of second bedroom: £60 per stay

    • The logs and kindling supplied in the living are complimentary. There is a charge to use logs in the garden porch – the charges are clearly indicated and will be deducted from your security deposit.

    • Repairs, loss, and excessive cleaning will also incur charges. See our terms and conditions for details.

  • To make the most of your stay, we recommend packing:

    • Swimming costume – for the pool or spa at Bovey Castle. Towels are provided at the castle.
