THE DETAILS

Holidays should be easy. Guests love how Moorland View feels like a home-from-home, with all the basics covered, making it easy to switch off. Here are simple answers to the questions guests often ask before booking.

  • No hidden extras. The price you see includes everything needed for a comfortable, five-star stay – from luxury linens and fluffy towels to logs for the fire, fast Wi-Fi and private parking.

Additional baskets of logs are available if you’d like more and are charged at cost.

Optional extras, such as breakfast hampers or celebration touches, are clearly listed and entirely your choice.

If you’re bringing one small, well-behaved dog, a fee of £60 applies.

Any damage or loss is simply deducted from the refundable damage deposit, should it be needed.

  • Guests at Moorland View are welcome to use the spa facilities at nearby Bovey Castle, just a short drive or scenic riverside walk away. Spa access costs £30 per person, per day, payable directly to the spa. There’s no need to book in advance for general use.

This gives you access to the indoor pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and relaxation areas. Spa treatments can be booked separately if you wish, subject to availability.

  • Fire safety
Moorland View is thatched cottage in a thatched village, so fire safety is extremely important. While the wood-burning stove is perfectly safe to use, it must be operated with care at all times. Guests are required to follow the simple fire-safety guidance provided.

Small TV – but BIG movie screen!
Inside, the cottage has a small television, chosen to keep the living space calm and uncluttered. For evenings in, there’s also a large projector screen for immersive viewing.

    Narrow roads
A car is strongly recommended. Local roads are narrow, single-track Devon lanes, so you’ll need to be comfortable reversing into tight passing places when exploring the area.

    No microwave
The kitchen doesn’t include a microwave, as space is limited, but it’s otherwise fully equipped for cooking and dining.

  • Brimming with rustic charm  - think wood-beamed walls, flagstone floors and an inglenook fireplace - this 1705, Grade II-listed cottage is a private, high-end boutique couples’ hideaway made for slow mornings, candlelit dinners, fireside conversations and unforgettable moments together. Characterful interiors blend a contemporary rustic style with natural local materials, including Dartmoor sheepskins, ironwork forged by the village blacksmith and hand-crafted pieces made by local artisans.

Curl up together by the crackling log fire, watch a film on the pop-up home cinema, or soak together in the huge, indulgent copper slipper bath. Bedrooms are warm, cocooning and quietly luxurious, with big, decadent beds layered with feather-filled pillows, sumptuous velvet cushions, fine Egyptian cotton linen and soft wool throws – perfect for long lie-ins. Guests always remark on the exceptional attention to detail and thoughtful touches – from the complimentary locally sourced welcome hamper, to marshmallows for toasting over the log fire.

  • The romantic sun-soaked walled garden is garlanded with delicately scented roses and honeysuckle. It’s ideal for al fresco dining, sunset drinks and starlit evenings, while cushioned sun loungers invite long, lazy afternoons with a gin and tonic in hand.

Listen to birds fluttering and splashing in the pond, and savour the rare luxury of complete calm and tranquility.

  • North Bovey is a chocolate-box cluster of thatched cottages gathered around an oak-shaded village green, a beautiful 13th-century church and the welcoming gastropub, The Ring of Bells, with its much-loved sunny garden.

This is a village where traditions still quietly matter. Locals look out for each other, favours are happily swapped, and it’s not unusual to hear of fresh vegetables, spring bulbs or a brace of pheasants being exchanged over a gate.

Little touches of village life remain here, from quiet lanes to fresh eggs and honey sold on trust from a neighbour’s honesty box.

There’s a strong sense of community, shaped by centuries of moorland life.

Set in bucolic hills on the eastern side of Dartmoor, you’ll wake to birdsong, the gentle sound of distant church bells and the clip-clop of horses passing along the lane. Pull back the curtains to views of the walled rose garden and sweeping Dartmoor hills, where wild ponies graze beneath wide skies. Life here is blissfully peaceful, calm and unhurried.

  • Our characterful thatched village pub serves exceptional food and real ales in a sublime garden setting, while the refined fine-dining restaurant and elegant cocktail bar at nearby Bovey Castle is a 15-minute walk or short drive away.  Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park is also close by.

Moretonhampstead and Chagford both have lovely cafes and pubs. See our guide to the best places to eat for more information.

  • Step straight into exhilarating Dartmoor walks – epic moorland, wooded gorges, prehistoric settlements and sheep-flecked pastures are all on your doorstep.

A picturesque 15-minute riverside walk through the woods (or a short drive) leads to the five-star spa and country club at Bovey Castle. Treat yourselves to a spa day for two, with pampering massages, and use of Art Deco swimming pool, sauna and hot tub overlooking the moor. They also have a championship golf course and a programme of seasonal activities, including sloe gin making and clay pigeon shooting.

See our bespoke travel guide revealing the most romantic things to do in Devon and the best things to do in North Bovey.

  • To make your boutique Devon cottage break even more luxurious and special, at Moorland View, we offer a range of indulgent extras, including a farmhouse breakfast, Devonshire cream tea, homemade oven-ready meals, and romantic packages that include champagne, roses, and chocolates. You can also hire a private chef, enjoy a gourmet Devon hamper, or add mid-stay linen and cleaning. Every detail is designed for a cosy, romantic, and unforgettable luxury couples’ retreat in scenic countryside.

Breakfast is also available at our village pub by prior arrangement, and there are plenty of fantastic options for breakfast and brunch in our bespoke travel guide.

  • A 15% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, with the balance due six weeks before arrival. Date changes are possible with at least six weeks’ notice, subject to availability. Cancellations within six weeks are not refundable, so we recommend adding cancellation insurance at the time of booking. Full details are outlined in our terms and conditions. See our T&Cs for more details.
